Sharon Mabon was a police lieutenant who went from investigating a quadruple homicide straight to the casino. She first gambled at nine.
Sharon Mabon started gambling at nine. As an adult she was raising a son, working as a police officer, and spending every spare hour in casinos, chasing a win that was never enough.
She talks about winning $20,000 and losing more, gambling until she feared for her life, losing a $5,000 chip a stranger gave her, and how the trauma of police work fed the habit. We also get into why women who gamble are so often overlooked.
She finally committed to recovery in 2025 through counselling, faith, her family and casino self-exclusion. Now she advocates for gambling awareness, more treatment funding, and young people being drawn into sports betting.
